Character Word of the Month for February is Determination: to make up one's mind to do something,... firmness of purpose.
Character Word for the Month of December is: Kindness Kindness: acting nicely towards or doing nice things for others, giving of oneself to benefit others. Developmental Class kids can turn in their November Strength Goal Sheets to their teachers. If they have made their goals for the month and a parent signs off & verifies that they did the work each child will receive a free pass to open gym! Character Word of the Month for November is: Leadership Leadership: influencing or directing others through words or example. By having kids be the example for demonstrating a skill, helping lead the stretching or strength, being the leader going to the next event or a drink - we aim to help them develop a view of themselves as leader and what it means to be a leader.
Character Word of the Month for October: Listen Listen: 'to try to remember & understand what has been said'. 'Listen' is a word that is used frequently, particularly with children. In teaching gymnastics or anything for that matter, it is easy to see that the children who are able to listen best - do the best. But how well do children really understand what this word means and implies? For some it is more natural and easy than others. Yet, like any other skill it can be improved with better awareness and understanding through practice. Our goal this month is for our coaches to challenge and test the kids on their listening and comprehension and make them more aware of how much of the instructions they are really getting.
Great Job! To those class kids who completed their strength goal sheets for September!. Enjoy your free pass to open gym on Saturday nights!
Parents: Just a reminder that if your child has been working on their strength goal sheet for September at home, they should bring it with them to class beginning next Monday, October 1st. If they have been working at their goals and you sign off on it, they will receive a free pass to open gym on Saturdays as a reward for their efforts! We will also be starting a new goal sheet and a new Character Word for the month on Monday as well. So please look for some information and goal sheets coming home with your child this week. Extra Credit Strength for Your Child at Home... Starting on Tuesday, September 4th we will be sending home a very simple strength chart for your child (developmental classes) to fill out at home. In most cases there will only be 1 or 2 exercises, pushups & sit ups, on the sheet with a small number goal for your child to try & do every day. The purpose here is not only to help increase your child's overall strength but to teach them about how to 'stick to something & work consistently at it for an extended period of time. The strength chart will have a number goal & dates for September and what your child should do is do the couple of exercises, preferably at the same time every day and then check them off on their sheet. They need you to give them some guidance here. While the real reward is the benefit of increasing both their strength & their ability to 'persevere' at something, we will give them a free pass to open gym if they bring the chart back when the month is over filled out with your signature. So let's get those kids going!
Have a Question? Please ask your instructor, they are more than willing to help you, or you can email us at info@swissturners.com. We want to be as helpful as we can!
Character Word for the Month of September: Perseverance Perseverance: to continue a course of action in spite of difficulty. "Sticking to goals until they are reached" or more simply put, "Sticking to it!" The goal of our character word of the month for our class kids (6 & up), is to help them apply and experience important life attributes with the goal of not only having them understand what they mean, but to associate that great quality with how they view themselves.
